May. 8th, 2012 09:30 am OH HEY SO I WAS GONNA UPDATE THIS THING.
So this quarter has been pretty crazy for me. I'm only doing one other class at my college, which is Drama 101, but otherwise I'm doing a video production internship at the university in town too--which also gives me college credit where I'm at right now. I had an interest in film AND video production but I wasn't sure which yet. I mainly just wanted to get behind a camera at all. But now that I got to do it, I'm not sure if I wanna KEEP doing it? It's really cool to make news segments for the university's new TV show, don't get me wrong, but I dunno if production in general is something I wanna keep doing as a career. I'm not as into it as I thought I'd be, and I feel like if there's something I REALLY wanna do in life I shouldn't have to 100% dread doing my work nearly every time.
I'm thinking I prefer the analysis of film over the production of film now. Like film criticism, maybe? I dunno. That would be a really cool thing to do, especially since people say I'm a good writer and I'm also good at analyzing/picking things apart about movies and games and whatever, but I wonder if there's more than just that? Besides teaching. All I know is that I reaaaaally don't wanna teach. So I dunno. Maybe film journalism? Game journalism? I don't wanna assume too much about the crap I'm interested in (like how when I was a kid I thought I could make video games until I realized it takes a LOT of math) but it's worth trying out while I'm at school at least, right?
Anyway, so yeah, I think I'm gonna try journalism for my next quarter at my college! I'm also gonna volunteer at the Pickford, an awesome indie movie theatre in my area that I love, over the summer too. That way I expand my interests more and see what I like best. I hope I find what I really wanna do this way. I know I have a big interest in movies and wanna do something with them, I just don't know what it is yet. If anything, I'm at least gonna get the associates degree my parents want me to get while I'm at college no matter what happens. So college definately won't be a waste of time for me, even if I don't 100% figure out what it is I wanna do yet.
SO YEAH, other than having to do this internship (it's a quarter long thing so I might as well stick with it) things have been pretty alright! I was freaking out pretty bad at first about the internship because I thought I couldn't do it, but now I'm getting a better grip on things!
